How many of you are trying to find a dress for a special occasion, whether it be a wedding, party or the races? I’ve certainly been on the hunt for the perfect dress for Ladies Day at Newmarket Races, since I attended the Launch of the Style Awards in May. This is one I’ve been considering from Topshop, so I thought I’d share it’s good points with you.

1. It’s Price Point

One good thing about the Austin dress is it’s price point. Costing only £39, but looking more expensive definitely puts it in the running. Outfits for any special occasion can soon become pricey, once you factor in buying matching accessories and the cost of going itself.

2. It’s Flattering Style

It’s style is also appealing, with it’s retro feel, figure flattering cut and the slits give it a modern edge. These slits together with it’s floaty sleeves will keep you cool, whilst also hiding any upper arm problems. You would need to find a suitable bra or vest top as the back does have an opening.

3. More Accessory Options

A pattern print is a good option for a special occasion dress, especially when choosing accessories. This daisy print is in three colours- two shades of pink/coral and a white. I would probably choose one of the pinks or a pinky nude, as I have done, to accessorise the dress with heels, a hat/fascinator (if required) and bag.

4. Cost per Wear

Another good point of the Austin dress is it’s adaptability. It would be so easy to dress it down for everyday/holiday wear with a pair of flats, trainers or sandals. This makes it a great choice in terms of fashion sustainability and cuts down the price per wear – always a factor to be considered.

5. Some Accessory Ideas

Here are a small selection of hats you might like to wear to complement this outfit. All of these and many more are available to hire from online or at their showroom in Fordham, Suffolk. I regularly use them for a special occasion as they have some great designer pieces and many options to colour match your outfit. Otherwise Debenhams or Etsy are a popular option as well as other regional Hat Hire companies.
